Enjoy The Little Things In Life
No matter who you are, no matter what you do, no matter what your life is like, if you can find beauty in the smallest of details, you will be happier, and your days will be brighter.
When was the last time you were in love? Do you remember how things seemed different? Not just the situations you found yourself in, but rather the trees, the sky, everything you saw around you as you walked outside. People in love often begin to notice how beautiful nature can be, and enjoy it immensely. You don’t have to be in love to enjoy the little things in life. In fact, finding beauty in the details when you aren’t in love is a great trick you can use to make each day much more pleasant.
A pessimist finds it easy to see the bad in things, big and small. An optimist can see the good. You can train yourself to be either. If you are currently an optimist, that’s great. If you’re a pessimist, you can change. Why bother? Because when you find a lot of small good things, they all add up to make your life fuller and incredibly joyful.
Say you find yourself in an unpleasant situation. Someone is telling you something bad happened. You can focus completely on the negative points of the situation and allow your mood to take a nosedive. Or, you could find something good to grab onto, no matter how small. Whether it be a material object in the room, the leaf of a plant, the aroma of some nearby food or flowers, the temperature, or even part of the circumstances that led to the moment you find yourself in. Maybe there were good times in the past, and one specific moment stands out in your memory. If you can find just one article of joy in such an unpleasant situation, you’ll be more relaxed, and more prepared to face whatever troubles lie ahead with greater resilience and increased resolve to triumph over adversity.
Say the bad situation never happens, and your life is fine. Nothing bad happens. Everything is A-OK. You may get used to things being so-so, and begin taking for granted all the little pleasures of life. If you forget how much fun little things can be, you miss out on a great deal of the delight, wonder, and charm that is inherent in the world. You can make every day better simply by finding joy in the little things, like sitting in a comfortable chair, or being warm when it’s raining outside, or getting a good night’s rest, or being with a loved one. When you stop taking potential joys for granted, and begin to find beauty in the details, you’ll rediscover the magic of being alive.
